I think we must have the best Sunday school teachers at Covenant Community Church. Our kiddos are learning so much and they feel so loved. Since we have been at CovCom, we have been challenged to do memory verses with our kids. Not to brag, but at three Jared has over 20 verses hidden in his heart ;-). God is good.
On Sunday mornings, Tim takes Jared at 9:15 for Sunday School before our regular 10:30am service. The kids do worship then break out by age group for a lesson. Today they must have learned about Moses ... we gather, anyway, from his version of the story, which is (and I quote) as follows:
He says, "God said to Jesus, 'Go out of your house right now and go and fight with Amalek!' and then he got his staff and holded it up and it was so heavy and he got tired and when he put his staff down the bad guys were going to win the battle against Jesus and then the bad guys just winned the battle and then one of Jesus' friends held his arms up so he winned the battle ... that's what God told him to do. And then Jesus winned the battle and then the bad guys never winned the battle and Jesus got tired and he sat on a blue (?) rock and then one of his friends held his arms up so he winned the battle ... the bad guys never winned the battle because Jesus winned the battle ... he just fight the bad guys and Amalek, and he won."
It took a little deciphering to figure out that this is the story that they learned. The big clue was his perfect pronunciation of the name of the "bad guy" ... "AMALEK". Tim and I kept thinking he was talking about Abimilech ... nope, not Abimilech, AMALEK ... his sweet teachers must have really driven that name home.
Great job ladies, we owe you our prayers and a debt of gratitude for the wonderful, sweet way you serve our precious children.
Israel Defeats Amalek (Exodus 17:8-13)
8 Then Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. 9 So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.” 10 So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses' hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.
... for the record, both Tim and I tried to convince Jared that is was Joshua and Moses that fought Amalek, NOT Jesus. However, he INSISTED that it WAS Jesus. No headway was to be made on this point of divergence. We figure, 'choose your battles', right? Ha!
