Palm Desert

We are on our way! Can it already be Thanksgiving again?? The Barrett six are on the road, en route to what's been our (mostly) annual trip to see Tim's family in Northern California and spend the week of Thanksgiving with them.

All together it's about an 11-12 hour drive so we usually try to stop in Palm Desert to visit with a very special lady and dear friend, Carol Auslen. Carol is a friend from our Tahoe days. It was at her beautiful home overlooking the Lake in Zephyr Cove that Tim asked me to be his wife on that Valentines day over eight years ago. Carol is a tough cookie; smart and accomplished. Widowed for over 15 years, she is a real estate investor, former teacher, she was an avid skier, hiker, and friend of the Tahoe Rim Trail well into her 80's. The last five years she has survived a few strokes, beaten breast cancer, and still puts on lipstick and a smile every day.

We love our layovers at her beautiful home in Palm Desert, visiting with her and Glen, one of the sweet men who helps care for her full time here. We are grateful for Carol, her friendship, prayers, and encouragement over the years. It has been so good for our hearts to see her so well. She really looks great and was speaking and conversing beautifully. Seriously, the best we've seen her since her serious stroke a few years back. We lamented that It's been over a year and a half since we've last seen her and hope to come back in the spring. The boys were begging to swim in her pool! Tahoe friends - Carol still loves company! If you would like her number or address, please let me know.

What a blessing to enjoy Carol's sweet hospitality on our way to Gilroy. The boys were thrilled with Glen's cooking and special treats like potato chips and orange juice. AND - Anna Jean had her first full night's sleep in over a month.

We left Phoenix yesterday afternoon and drove for 4 1/2 hours to La Quinta. We did make a stop at the 2 1/2 hour mark to feed and soothe sister. Today, we'll go 7 more. All for the love of family. :-)
