Garden ...

When the weather warmed this past January, JJ (our sweet friend and neighbor) came over to enjoy the day ... together we dreamed of starting a little "community garden" in the huge untamed space in my backyard. We girls met a few times to plan out what to plant and where and a week or so later a project began ...

Tim and Robert started clearing
rocks on the Heller side of the yard ...

... and they built us some boxes (3 total)

We all made trips to the valley's nurseries to
buy our plants (I took some advice from
Alishia and purchases mostly transplants)
and planned their locations ...

By the end of January, most were in the ground ...

We've since cleared another space in an
existing planter to grow some more veggies ...

Above are some lettuce plants coming
up from seed and some bulb onions...

Some swiss chard transplants and more onions ...

Now that we are nearing the end of March, the garden is really starting to produce. We've been clipping swiss chard, collards, kale, spinach, and lettuce pretty much every day for green smoothies and salads ... Can you see those cute little carrot tops just starting to peak through?

In this box, we have beans and squash starting, as
well as radishes ... looking forward to some peas,
garbanzos, artichokes, and zuchinni's before too long ...
We are so blessed to have fun and helpful neighbors to help us get this little project off the ground. We've really enjoyed watching these plants take off and eating the fresh food they've produced. This past week we also planted two tomato plants and a gypsy pepper, hoping to have lots of salsa and salad this summer!

... and we are all going to learn to love radishes!
