Chicken on the Brain...

A friend of mine passed along information on how to save some big $$ on chicken. I have to admit that I've spent a little too much time now thinking about it and planning for it!! It is a really good deal, so I am passing it on...

There is a company, Zaycon Foods that is selling boneless, skinless, chicken breasts for $1.49/lb. Seriously, how cheap is that? They sell it in bulk - 40 lb cases (divided into 4 - 10 lb bags). You pre-pay, then pick it up.

I've never bought from them before, so I can't totally vouch - BUT there are some pretty excited couponers spreading the word ...

All that to say, if you are interested, here is the link to Zaycon.

I found suggestions on how to answer few questions on this site ...

How much chicken do I need?

Take the # breasts/meal (x) # meals/week with chicken (x) # week supply - they suggest 20 weeks ... divided by 54 - which is about how many breasts per case)

And, how do I store it?
  • Use kitchen shears to trim the chicken… super easy!
  • Bag the chicken breasts side by side in a gallon sized bag. Makes for simple storage!
Only need one or two breasts? Simply toss the bag of 6 frozen chicken breasts on a concrete floor (patio/garage floor) so the chicken breaks apart. Open the bag, pull out a breast or two, reseal the bag and put it in the freezer! (I took video of me doing this, but can’t get it off my phone!).
  • You can also cook chicken (I like to do it in the crock pot), let it cool a bit, shred it or cube it, and the bag it. Great to use for casseroles, salads, and soups!
  • Put some FREE salad dressing (Ranch or Italian – yummy!) or BBQ Sauce or a favorite marinade in the bad with the chicken! Then when you’re ready to eat it, pull it out the night before and it will soak and marinade all day long while it thaws!

Alright... so there you have it. Chicken...
