Rain!!

It's been a HOT summer. Hotter and more humid than normal as the clouds from the monsoons rolled in some time ago bringing their moisture with them, but have withheld any actual rain to drop the temperatures.

Consequently, we've all been overheating - me especially. If I had a nickel for everytime I've pleaded with my kids while out on an errand to, "Hurry up! It's HOT out here" or my personal favorite, "You better knock that off, it is WAY TOO HOT for you to be acting like this!" ... I might have a dollar by now. Do you think young kids even get that line of reasoning? Yeah, me neither.

All that to say, the only way I've let the kids play outside is under the cooling drops of our sprinkler. Yes, I know its not the best use of water to run the sprinkler over the basketball court. But - it's allowed them to get outside and given them a much needed activity to burn energy.

Jared, Will, and Mikayla Riccio playing "David and Goliath"
on the trampoline under the sprinkler. Take my word for it
when I tell you that this is a game BEST played outside. ;-)

Jared and Will riding bikes. In undies. Under the sprinkler.

I am happy to report, though, that last night we got our first real rain of the summer. Granted, it only lasted about 30 minutes - BUT it dropped the temperature at least 30 degrees for the rest of the evening and was glorious nonetheless!

After being cooped up inside all day watching me get some much needed accounting done on the computer, the boys eagerly rushed outside to play in the rain when it started pouring. (Jared a little more eager than Will, I think the storm might have been a little much for him)

Jared exclaimed, "Mom! I have been THANKING the LORD for some rain! I asked him for it!!"

Me, too, bud. Thank the LORD for monsoons!
