Last weekend I went to Tulsa and left Tim home with the big boys. The Tuesday before I left town (on Thurs), he sent me this email:
…Had a crazy idea last night, tell me what you think… Thinking of taking Friday off and taking the boys to San Diego while you’re gone for the first annual Barrett Boys Beach Bum trip… Sleep in the mini van and spend a day or two at the beach. Minimalist trip, just take our book to read in the evenings, the DVD player and the clothes on our back. Spend time wandering around and hanging at the beach and reading or watch a movie in the evening… Stupid idea?
Could this Cute Husband BE any cuter? He actually did it!! I have to admit that although I wanted him to spend focused, quality time with Jared and Will, I was a little nervous about the whole sleeping in the car thing. That said, I didn't want to discourage him in anyway from what had the potential to be a fabulous, memory making weekend. As I packed for Tulsa, I did pack one bag for the boys and some food so that they would have a change of clothes and some snacks. Tim is always amazed by how much stuff I bring whenever we travel, so I know he LOVED the idea of a "minimalist trip". That said, the mama in me wanted to make sure my boys at least had sweatshirts and underwear!
I asked him to send me some pictures for a little photo diary of their time. Gosh, they had so much fun ...
First time on the beach in La Jolla after the long drive. And, yes, J has to go potty.
They stopped for a playtime at McDonalds with lunch and then headed to the outside park by the beach ...
Sounds like some of their favorite times were spent watching the hang gliders (or "hand-gliders" as Will calls them). They were disappointed they didn't get to try it - Will especially!
Both Friday and Saturday evenings they hooked up with the Tagliarini's to swim (I'm guess that's what you do for a shower when you are a beach bum). And Saturday night, they stayed with the Tags so my cute husband could get some good rest before the long drive home.
Barrett Boys Beach Bum Trip ... how cute is that? These boys have such a good Daddy.
(deep sigh of happiness)
PS: I should add that I wasn't the only ones with some initial reservations about the idea of car camping in San Diego. Tim told me that BOTH the boys told him several times, "Daddy, YOU should sleep in the car and WE will sleep at Sal (Tagliarini)'s house." Ha ha!
