Spring break lunch date!

The big boys had spring break this week.  With all of our house preparations and with me being so close to my due date, we opted to stay in town.

The fabulous thing about small kids, though, is that they are thrilled to do anything out of the norm.  For example, we took a trip to Costco and I let them eat lunch there and even got them EACH their own Sprites.  Jared was so thrilled that he was able to get a soda that he asked if we could ALWAYS go to Costco for spring break.  How cute is that?  All I kept thinking was, "Praise the LORD for low expectations!"

We really did have fun though.  The weather was beautiful so we took several bike rides...  One morning we met up with the Hanson clan to do a hike in the mountain preserve...

I'm pretty sure it was Caleb's first hike outside the stroller so he was thrilled.  He's been wearing boots nonstop so his footwear slowed him down a bit.  Even so - he was thrilled to be a big boy.

Here are the three Barrett boys with the youngest (for now) three of the Hanson clan.  It was such a treat to spend the time outside with Alishia and her kiddos.

Seriously, though, Jared said all week what he was most excited about was spending time with his family...  love that.

To celebrate Fun Friday, we had lunch out together at Barros - which was another big treat.  The boys (again) got sodas - this time opting for root beer.  I only relay that detail because when Tim came home that night Jared told him, "Dad, today was my lucky day.  I got TWO root beers."  Ha ha!  Love these boys.

Some kids go to San Diego or Disneyland for spring break.  The Barretts go to Costco and out for pizza and are happy campers!  Thank goodness!  :-)

PS:  While at Barro's we saw two firefighters (you can see them over J's shoulder if you look closely in the picture.  Jared has been obsessed with fire ever since he had a fireman come and talk to their class at the beginning of the year.  At least once, and usually several, times a week he asks questions about fires.  What to leave?  What to take?  What to do? We've been over it countless times and even did a fire drill out their bedroom window.  The other night he told me that he dreams about fires almost every night and dreamt the Hellers (our neighbors) house was on fire too.  What do we do with that??  Anyway, I decided to impose on those two fireman at lunch and ask them for some tips.  They were so kind to Jared and gave him some great pointers that I hope put his mind at ease.  They also gave us the green light to visit our neighborhood fire station on a Saturday morning.  This is something we definitely plan to do soon.  :-)
