Will - isms

Will is cracking me up lately. He is talking so much. Mostly, I am the only one who can understand his little language, but he exhibiting speech and showing increased understanding of the world around him nonetheless ...

Tonight, after returning an illicitly obtained Teddy to its rightful owner (Jared), Will turns to me and says, "I peemako!" (translation: "I'm being a peacemaker!" ... obviously not yet aware of the irony of this statement given the situation)

Will is especially adept at getting our attention and getting us to acknowledge the things that catch his eye. He accomplishes this by loudly repeating the name of whatever object he is referring to, while wildly gesturing to it. He repeats these steps until Tim or I stop whatever we are doing and say, "Yes, Will, you're right. That is a(n) _________"

As in:

"HU-BAAA!! HU-BAAA!!!" (translation: "HUMMINGBIRD!! HUMMINGBIRD!!!")

or

"TRAY!! TRAY!!" (translation: "train"... In Will-speak, "train" is often used to refer to a semi-truck or bus or pretty much any large vehicle we see while driving around town)

or

"AIRPLA!! AIRPLA!!!" (translation: "AIRPLANE!! AIRPLANE!!!" ... which could mean a plane or a helicopter)

Will is turning into our little show off, too. Taking a page from Bubba's book, he says several times a day:

"Hey Mommy, wat dis!" (translation: "Hey Mommy, watch this!" ... usually followed by him hurling himself on the couch or some other crazy flop or fall on purpose)

When swimming, he gives the count before jumping into the pool:

"Wa, Too, Tree, Do!!" (translation: "One, Two, Three, Go!!)

Will is also really in love with babies these days. He always points out, "BABY! BABY!" whenever we see an infant, an infant's car seat, or any child of smaller stature than himself. He is especially fond of "Baby Du-dah" (translation: "Baby Judah") and talks about him frequently.

Will going in for the "kiss" ...

Will is turning into quite the concerned little boy about me and others around him. Whenever, I seem upset or frazzled about something, he will always ask:

"Waa Mommy? Waa Mommy?" (translation: "Mommy, what is going on? Is everything ok?)

And, finally ... no blog about Will would be complete without the classic Will Barrett phrase, "I'm huggie, I'm huggie" (translation: "I'm hungry, feed me now... Seriously, I'll eat anything!" Usually this is said while on his way to take his chair at the kitchen table, regardless of the time of day, or when he catches me cooking in the kitchen)

The lesson for me this past year ... even if you can't initially comprehend what these little ones are trying to communicate, stop and listen carefully. Chances are, they are understanding more and saying more than you might think.

Love this crazy boy. Love that he speaks in exclamation points, runs instead of walks, jumps headfirst into any situation, and oozes joy with perfect dimples in his cheeks and an impish twinkle in his eye. It's hard to believe he is about to turn two next month ...

It is so fun to see him grow up, I am so glad I get to be Will's Mommy.

Too cute! So many similarities to my Emily. They speak the same language! I'm going to have to post all of her "Emily-isms"!

Two! I know, doesn't it shock you? Because that means Gianna's turning two even sooner and it breaks my little heart because, she, too is so cute these days.

Shocking, yes. Crazy that once it's gone, it is gone. ;-(

I have to say, though ... for me, I think turning two is less shocking than when he turned one. I am so grateful that I was able to slow down and be home so much more these past 6 months. It has been such a blessing to have the quantity time with him and really be present and aware of everything as he goes through these stages in his little life. It is all changing at such a rapid pace!!
