Cross Another Saturday Off the List ...

Earlier this week, I took the massive list of remaining projects and tried to lay them out in a schedule for the remaining weekends we have until baby girl arrives.  Having a plan is always good, right?  It was huge to be able to dial in and focus on just a "few" things this week and weekend as part of the overall list.  The good news is that we got a lot done today that was on this weekend's schedule :-) ... the not so good news is that some of it has to be done again.  :-(

My friend, Jessica, suggested that I do white floating Ikea shelves for the space next to the fireplace where I've been kicking around the idea of the big canvas. It seemed like a GREAT suggestion so Ikea was on my "list" of things to get done this week.  I didn't actually make it down there until late Friday night, no thanks to the stomach flu bug that rocked our entire house.  Despite the setback, I was not deterred and finally was driving out there late Friday night.  It turned out to be a fun trip as JJ was able to make the trek with me and we were able to weigh in on each other's projects.    My goal was to have paint and everything I needed to get today's projects accomplished in hand before the day started.  And ... because I was so determined to have everything ready, turns out I might have rushed a few key selections a bit ...

After taking Willy on a long Saturday morning Daddy date, my cute husband returned and hung the shelves.  Once up, we started digging into my boxes of frames and we began randomly laying stuff out:

After looking at some more inspiration photos, I played around a little with the arrangement tonight.  I still don't love it, but this is what it looks like now:

It still needs to be toned down so as not to compete too much with the fireplace, but it's a start.

What I do LOVE, though, is our new rug.  My Aunt Cathy just had new carpet put in her bedrooms.  Turns out her guy ordered far too much so she had a huge remnant to give to have bound.  It was enough for a large area rug (above) and a runner (below).  We're still not too sure where the runner will live, but I hated to waste it as the pattern is so cute!

(And, PS: My friend, Kirsten, had the best recommendation for a very inexpensive rug binder.  Major score!)

My focus today was to be paint.  This morning, the soon to be nursery looked like this:

The color I selected was called "flax" from Restoration Hardware.  Shown below on the bottom right it looks like a dark-ish tan/taupe, right?

Wrong!!  Now that the paint is done, I'll admit I rushed the paint selection as I thought if I picked a Restoration color I could do no wrong... oops!  Big (and super annoying) lesson.  In addition to the shelves and paint, I wanted to have the new chandelier hung where the ceiling fan was.  Although its hard to tell what it looks like from the picture, I LOVE the chandelier ...

I'm a little less than enthused about the army green color that "flax" turned out to be.  I thought it would a more brownish tan.  Serves me right for picking a color off a computer, huh?  Super annoying that its the most expensive paint ever and that it has to be completely redone!!  I wanted something a little more on the dark side, but once it dried it was shockingly dark.

The lighter colors on the spectrum seemed too tame before, but now I know.  I'M TAME and what I had in mind was tame.  The good news is, it's paint and it can be painted over.

Bad news is, that Lubby will have to endure another painting day.  He was beside himself to be shut out of the room from me while I painted.  While Tim and Will were out this morning, I painted down low, I painted high so he could be with me.  And with me, he was.  Like all over me.  See where he sits while I work?  Like, right on top of me.

If I've said it once, I've said it a 100 times... I can only focus on one thing a day.  So... for the next few weekends until we get the nursery and the rest of these projects dialed, I can just expect the house to look like this by the time everyone goes to bed...

When I'm not not all over stemming the tide of destruction that three small kids and a very cute husband can wreak in the course of a day, I can be assured of having a big 'ol mess to tackle before bed.

Good news is, I'm getting pretty good at it and I am committed to not going to sleep (ever, if possible) until the house it put back together.  I've learned my lesson on that one a few too many times ... waking up in debt to the previous day's mess is the best way to ruin a perfectly good day!  :-)

Haha Tai always told me that you guys said that. It's now our philosophy too. If only I could clean up any type of financial debt in one night as well...that would make for a great morning :)
