Especially ones that like to peruse Pottery Barn catalogs like mine.
Today after Tim had a showing at one of the rental houses, we did the marathon home decor shopping trip (well, in all truth it was just about 4 hours, but we had 3 small kids in tow so after several stores it FELT like we had a marathon!)
Our main errand was to pick up two upholstered chairs to sit between the piano and the armoire. I'd spotted some I thought would work at Pier One on Friday but I had no way to even think about getting them home at the time and I wanted Tim's opinion. After a quick lap through Home Goods and Kirkland, we selected these chairs at Pier One:
And now the second guessing ... They seem a little brown to us now that they are in their spot. Its sort of like a wall of brown with Grandma's chairs in the middle. What do you think?
After Pier One I ran through Jo Ann's to check out fabric for Caleb's room, pick up his letters, and look at the home fabric selection for the big canvas. I did end up purchasing this two sided embroidered one ... but ...
You guessed it. More second guessing. Whenever I look at it, instead of seeing a stylish, sophisticated piece of decor, all I can think about this:
... its those daisies! The other side is more bold, and I think even worse. I've now been to 4 fabric stores and am super frustrated with it. Selecting such a statement piece is really hard!
On a brighter note, instead of the white painted brick idea suggested by Mandi, Tim decided to go all out and just build a mantel. We had some wood at the house, and he picked up some decorative pieces at Home Depot. And so the trim around the photo canvas and construction of the mantel has been
It's turning out really nice. I think we're going to be happy with it. That cute husband of mine is still hard at it and its almost midnight. We just might finish this thing yet before bed! :-)
Now - if only I could find some chairs I really like. What do you think about these?
They're a little larger, but I think I like that they're not matchy with the fireplace blue. I don't want to overdo it with the cafe blue. Thoughts?
Now ... if only I could return that fabric. This whole exercise has seriously been "design on a dime" over here. I'm super bummed I spent $50 on a wild fabric I

LOVE your family rules! I MUST get my hands on that! Congrats on your baby GIRL! How exciting!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new mantel and what you've done with your family picture! Yay! I'm kind of with you on the brown chairs though. They seem like an afterthought. Maybe try to make some throw pillows out of the canvas fabric to put on the chairs to add some color. That way, you won't feel like you totally wasted money on the fabric and you might like it better in smaller doses. Also, if you don't like the fabric on the canvas and can't find anything you like, you could always paint the canvas a color you like and then use stencils to paint designs on it or we can find you something cool to cut out of vinyl (with my new toy) to apply to the canvas. So many possibilities! Love you!
Thanks, Amy. Any news on the "rules"?
Thanks, too, Tara! Stencil could be cool. Maybe I should just put something on the wall ... Sooo many possibilities!
Saw the rules when I was browsing at Pier One at 18th St/Camelback today. Same exact one, but it was more like a sticker, not a canvas.
