Show and Tell...

Funny story from this week... We took the boys to Target so Jared could use a birthday gift card from his Nonie to buy some toys. I gave Will one dollar so he could pick out a little something too.

He selected the tiger you see above. Look at that face! Could he be any more excited about it?

On Tuesday, he really wanted to bring his tiger to school to show his class. I should mention that in Kindergarten Jared has show and tell every week. Will has been asking to bring something in and we've never let him. I remember Jared's first preschool teacher (no, not Mrs. Achterkirch - his other first preschool teacher) being adamant that kids not bring toys in because they were too distracting and easy to lose. So ... I just assumed the rules were probably the same. We've NEVER let Will bring something in. I thought he was just asking since Jared has S&T in Kindergarten and I told Will he could bring something in when HE was in Kindergarten.

I finally acquiesced with this little tiger, being sure to send his teacher a note to let her know that he had brought it. I apologized if it was against protocol and asked her to let me know what the policy was for sure. Her quick response:

Hi Stacy,
Will was very excited to show me his new tiger and I am always
thrilled when they bring something in. We usually have a little
"show and tell" at the end of the day or after lunch. This is
a great time for the student to get up and talk about their
toy. I also have others ask questions.
Thank you for your concern!
Love,
Mrs. Hayes
Oh. My. Gosh.

I can't believe I've never let him bring something in all this time! Talk about the poor kid with the mean mom. I'm not sure what I thought proper "protocol" was for preschool, anyway. Sounds silly, right? I'm so grateful for Mrs. Hayes and her sweet heart for Will and his little friends. She truly is everything you'd hope for in a preschool teacher. :-)
