Another fun day at the Phoenix Children's Museum. Our church had a play group there today, so that made for a handy excuse. We picked our cousin, Shannon, up on the way downtown so she could join us. This was Shannon's first time there and I think she had a good time. I have to admit that I didn't see too much of the other CovCom ladies. My first job of not losing two little boys in a sea of small children pretty much precludes any meaningful adult conversation.
That said - we did what we came to do. Play and play hard - inside - in the air conditioning - not melting in the Phoenix heat. One and a half hours later we were all played out and ready for lunch. Gotta love the PCM.

Everyone's favorite ... the noodle forest.

Jared with the tarantulas in the "Arizona Room". Yes, we do have tarantulas in Arizona. No, I have never seen one in my house (just scorpions).

Will measuring the split peas in the bulk section.

Shannon & Jared getting their grocery shopping done.

Jared playing with the train tower in the "ball room"

Taking a breather in the "under 3" room.

Jared putting the babies to bed in the doll house ... the PCM (and Joy's house) is the only chance Jared gets to play with dolls. Pretty cute.

Will showing us some of his patented dance moves.

Jared's garden ... two chances to plant flowers in one day? Amazing. ;-)

Will running through the beads. He loved this - they make the most pleasing sound when you go through them.

Jared & Shannon eating lunch.
And ... the perfect end to a super-fun morning?

Frozen yogurt with Daddy at everyone's favorite yogurt shop downtown! (thanks, Uncle Pat!)

Yes. Will does attempt to eat frozen yogurt with his fingers. And, yes, we think it's pretty gross, too. ;-)
Can I just say it is really fun being the mommy to these two boys? We really have a great time.

Is the PCM pretty crowded? I haven't been since last August, when several of the exhibits weren't even finished. I think I'll try to get one of the culture passes for it so we don't have to pay. Have you ever gotten one of those? I got one for the AZ Science Center when the Lego Castle display was there. My kids are a tad too young to really enjoy that place. Well, my 6 year old enjoyed it, but it was over the heads of my 4 and 2 year olds! One more question, can you tell me what you use for your kids' devotionals and how much time you spend doing this in the morning? I need to get on a routine with that. I think I'll head to Berean after swim lessons this morning.
It is pretty crowded in the summer because it is so fun and air conditioned! We have a membership so we just go for short periods and not feel like we have to stay to get our money's worth. We try to go early in the morning (they open at 9am) so we can get our fill and eat lunch to be home before naps.
If you get the culture pass or if you just want to go, call me! We're always game.
For devotionals, Jared has three different Children's Bibles - one of which is a daily one with 365 readings. We just sort of pick and choose which to read - roughly following along with the days of the year. How much time daily varies with Jared's mood (Will isn't always up when we do it), attention span, and the day's activities. We're flexible. Everyday, though, we read a story, talk about the application, and pray about it. Usually 10 minutes or so. He gets a smiley face on his daily chore chart for daily devotions so it helps hold us accountable.
Amazing what Jared can grasp at 3 - I especially like teaching him the different stories that aren't the standard Jonah/Daniel and the Lions, etc. By the end of the year, we will have gone through the entire bible a few different ways. So cool!
For Will's birthday coming up, I am going to get him his own children's bible. Let me know what Berean has.
