Morning Devo's ...

This is a picture of Jared this morning waiting for me to be ready to do our morning devotions. He was so cute. I had to send a quick email and by the time I was done, he had his spot all set up (which this morning was technically on my side of the bed!) and a spot set up for me, too with pillows for our backrests.

We break our morning devotion time into three parts:
1) Silent individual reading (or as "silent" as possible with a 3 yr old)
2) Mommy reads out loud from the children's bible and explanation
3) Prayer and application.

My favorite part of our morning devotion happens first when I get to read my daily bible readings (from a 365 day bible) while he "reads" from his bible. I have to often remind him that this time for our individual bible reading is supposed to be silent ... he is getting better at this all the time. (there is nothing like having small children that makes you appreciate silence!).

What I have loved lately is his choice for his own self directed "reading". Everyday J goes directly to Jesus dying on the cross. He LOVES looking at the pictures and talking about Jesus on the cross and the empty tomb. There are three pages in his 365 day bible that tell this story and one more that shows Lazarus emerging from his tomb. The other day he says, "Mommy, there are 4 pages of the cross and the empty tomb. Where is the 4th page?" It took me a minute to tie the Lazarus story together with the Passion. In his mind, they are totally linked.

All week Jared has "read" these stories over and over. He loves the cross. I love that he is amazed and in awe of the power of God.

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ.
It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—
the Jew first and also the Gentile.
(Romans 1:16)
